The Cancer Concern Center is a small non-profit organization that draws cancer survivors from Southern Monmouth and Northern Ocean Counties to its comfortable home in Point Pleasant Beach.

Despite operating on a shoestring budget with a volunteer staff, the Cancer Concern Center offers free programs to local cancer survivors.

On May 22, the Cancer Concern Center will host its largest fundraiser of the year a Dinner Dance in honor of its grassroots supporters.

Nestled along Route 35 South, the Cancer Concern Center provides weekly support meetings, meditation and yoga classes, massage and Reiki therapy, nutritional workshops, and new wigs to local residents regardless of their ability to pay. Far from an affluent organization, the Cancer Concern Center has no paid staff and minimal overhead preferring to funnel donations into client programs instead of administration.

Point Pleasant Beach resident Lisa Montalbano runs the Cancer Concern Center as a volunteer office manager. She explains, “Everything we do at the Cancer Concern Center revolves around the women and men who have the courage to walk through our front door. We don’t charge any mandatory fees. We add programs, as our budget allows, to serve more of our neighbors who are struggling with cancer and the economy at the same time.”

Montalbano says the Dinner Dance fundraiser comes at a critical time for the Cancer Concern Center, as it faces the most difficult fundraising challenges in the organization’s 13-year history.

“Outrageous medical bills are to blame for most personal bankruptcies,” Montalbano states. “But the horrible economy also has impacted non-profits like ours that focus on cancer support.

“We’re not a soup kitchen, and we don’t provide affordable housing,” Montalbano continues. “We don’t fit into the ‘category’ of low-income services that most funders want to support these days. Certainly those programs are important, but we keep cancer survivors from slipping through the cracks of depression and despair. The Cancer Concern Center is an incredibly valuable resource, at the local level, without being tied to any national organizations.”

Ever since its founding in 1998, the Cancer Concern Center has been an independent non-profit run by breast cancer survivors: Lori Jeffries of Point Pleasant and Jill McDonough of Lavallette. They envisioned a warm and welcoming setting that didn’t feel like a hospital a convenient place for women and men with cancer to discuss their condition, access resources, receive non-judgmental support, and rejuvenate their spirit.

This year’s Dinner Dance takes place on Saturday, May 22, from 7-11 p.m. at The Barclay in Belmar. Tickets are $80 each (the same price as last year), and they include a premium open bar, hor d’oeuvres, a five-course formal dinner, a gift auction, and live entertainment by the Infernos.

Sponsorship opportunities are available at a variety of levels from $120 Table Sponsors to $4,000 Event Sponsors. The Cancer Concern Center will produce an Ad Journal with placements from $25 to $300. Sponsors at the $3,000 level and higher will receive Dinner Dance reservations, full-page ad, and signage at the event.

To purchase tickets or discuss sponsorships, please contact Lisa Montalbano at the Cancer Concern Center (732-701-0250 or cancerctr@aol.com).

The mission of the Cancer Concern Center is to provide emotional support and wellness programs to women and men affected by cancer. The Cancer Concern Center was the first non-profit organization to offer support services to adults with cancer in the Northern Ocean County area. It is a member of the Ocean Medical Center’s Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.

The Cancer Concern Center is completely grassroots in nature and focused on families living in Monmouth and Ocean County, New Jersey. All contributions are tax-deductible and utilized for local cancer support programs.

Founded in 2006 by Kathleen Burns Kingsbury, it is dedicated to helping financial services professionals and their clients use psychology to be more financially and emotionally wealthy. Working as a behavioral change specialist during the past two decades, she has acquired qualifications, skills, and knowledge of human behavior that few money coaches have in today’s media-driven marketplace.
THSS and KBK Wealth Connection….
For a long time, I fought the idea of hiring a VA because of cost. But once I shifted my money perspective and see it as an investment in my company that would allow me to actually bring in more revenue then I hired Linda. Since that time, I have found that delegating administrative tasks to others helps me focus on the higher level business at hand. There is no turning back.

How did Kathleen choose THSS?
I was referred to THSS by a trusted friend who had been working with the firm for over 9 years.

What has Kathleen discovered about the pros and cons of working with a VA?
The pros are numerous including I get more done in a day because I am not the only one doing the work! Another pro is that I can use a VA for as much or as little as I need in a week. The con – probably just getting over my need to have my hands in everything which really is not the best for my business.

What does Kathleen have to say about their relationship?
THSS and Linda have always been pleasant, helpful and efficient with any assignment or task. Much to my surprise Linda has also been a resource when it comes to ideas on how to make my business run more smoothly. If you are thinking about hiring a VA, go ahead and try it out for a few hours a week. There is no turning back.

They recently changed their name to The World Leadership Pub to reflect their evolution and desire to expand their reach beyond their current membership to embrace leaders in all walks of life, regardless of background or training.

Since the group’s inception, the members’ goal has been the growth and advancement of leaders. They have witnessed the power of what happens when leaders gather together with a purpose, regardless of whether the purpose is learning, partnership, connection or support.

According to Barbara Wisnom, Executive Director of The Pub, who utilizes the services of Third Hand Secretarial Service, “Working with Linda on a regular basis over the past five years has been a joy. Linda is the consummate professional. She takes extreme pride in her work and does everything she can to ensure that her clients get to put their ‘best-foot-forward.’ Linda is always looking around the next corner and gently reminds me of deadlines. She is forever behind the scenes, doing whatever she can to make my life easier.”

“It’s great when Linda gets a chance to use her creative side. It doesn’t occur all that often, but when the need to create a new look for something arises, Linda’s end result is always magnificent. Linda is also extremely responsive; I can always count on her to get back to me in a timely manner and if ever there’s a hold up, it’s on my end.”

“Although Linda and I have never actually met in person, she’s someone with whom I could easily sit down over a cup of coffee or lunch and start up a conversation and it would flow as though we’d been friends forever. I am so fortunate to have her in my corner.”

Client Profile: A 25 Hour Day – The Productive Entrepreneur Program

I am so excited to profile A 25 Hour Day and the Productive Entrepreneur Program this month. On a personal note, I just entered the program last month and already have started to see some positive changes for my business. Joy has so much energy that it is just contagious! From our initial phone call, Joy was able to map out a strategy plan for my business. This plan can easily be updated each month and provide me with a snap shot showing the areas that are improving and the areas I need to focus more time on.

Joy Duling, founder of The Productive Entrepreneur Program works specifically with small business owners and entrepreneurs who are simply overwhelmed by the amount of work that needs to be done in order to keep their businesses up and running. Sometimes this is due to the fact that they are the ONLY person in their business. . . sometimes it’s due to the fact that they have a team, but each team member requires their constant attention for answers/direction.

Joy helps business owners determine how to best use their time to achieve their goals. The first step is typically a time study where she examines exactly where they are specifically spending their time. She asks business owners to track their time for two full weeks; she then takes that data, runs some analytics on it, and presents them with recommendations as to how they can streamline tasks and/or work to best sync with their own personal energy levels. This process also works perfectly to help business owners to identify what they ought to be delegating to someone else – like Linda and her team! (Joy herself uses Linda’s bookkeeping services and has her handling a significant chunk of her on-line marketing – article submissions as well as identification of speaking opportunities and strategic alliances.)

Beyond the time study, Joy also helps business owners with regularly scheduled business planning sessions and project management coaching to ensure that whatever is important to a business owner’s success actually gets done!

For more information, visit Joy’s Website at www.a25hourday.com or www.theproductiveentrepreneur.com. You can also contact Joy at 1-888-802-0294 or email her at info@a25hourday.com.

“Woven Together for Life” – this simple phrase holds such powerful meaning to the Longaberger Company. It is a phrase that embodies the spirit in which tens of thousands of independent home consultants, customers, and employees of The Longaberger Company have come together through the annual Horizon of Hope campaign.

Embracing this campaign as an effective vehicle for sharing detailed information about breast cancer and its prevention, The Kennis branch of The Longaberger Company continues its efforts to raise funds locally at their annual luncheon. Last year, nearly $13,000 was raised and donated to The Cancer Concern Center, a non-profit organization that is committed to serving the needs of individuals who are coping with cancer by providing them with a complementary comprehensive health program, including support groups, yoga classes, massage therapy, mediation, nutrition, makeovers, and hair loss alternatives. This year, the funds once again will benefit the Cancer Concern Center which is located in Point Pleasant Beach.

The “In the Pink” Luncheon is being held on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at 12:00 noon at The Woodlake Country Club in Lakewood, New Jersey.

To purchase tickets, or if you would like to make a contribution to The Cancer Concern Center, please contact Tina Kennis, The Longaberger Company, at 609-242-9492 or tinakennis@comcast.net.

The price of the ticket includes a lunch entrée and your choice of a Longaberger Basket designed for the 2008 Horizon of Hope campaign.

The Little Book That Gets BiG Results

Most business planning books focus on the creation of a traditional business plan: a static document that you might as well hang on the wall after you show it to your bankers and investors. This is a different kind of business planning book. In Ultimate Breakthrough Planning, you’ll learn how to leverage Mike Ferrell’s Business Funnel Approach to create and successfully execute a step-by-step business growth plan.

Join the thousands of business professionals who have attended Mike’s workshops and seminars and take the guesswork out of growing your business. In the end, you’ll know what parts of your business to focus on and why you’re doing so.
